July 7, 1940April 9, 2024. Age 83, of Bedford, peacefully passed away with his family at bedside on April 9, 2024, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary in Halifax. He was born on July 7, 1940, in Hong Kong. Michael was known for his lively personalit­y, zest for life, and energetic spirit. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was recognized for his generosity, kindness, and intelligen­ce. His welcoming and hospitable nature endeared him to all who knew him, especially when they visited his restaurant. In his career, Michael made significan­t contributi­ons as a teacher in Hong Kong and later in Halifax as owner of China Town Restaurant, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission­er, Vice-president of the Hong Kong-canada Business Associatio­n, Director of the Nova Scotia Restaurant Associatio­n and as a Provincial Court Translator. Outside of work, he enjoyed reading the Chinese newspaper, singing, and playing mahjong. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anna; son, Patrick; daughter, Benita (Alan Silverman); sisters, Marion Hum, Diana Ha; and many nephews and nieces. Services for Michael will be held in Atlantic Funeral Homes, Halifax Chapel, 6552 Bayers Road. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 16, from 3-5 p.m., with the Funeral service Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Michael will be dearly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
