It is with deep gratitude for a life well lived and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Maxwell Jewkes, age 89, of Springhill, NS. Doug passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst. Born in Springhill on November 7, 1934, he was a son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Pettigrew) Jewkes. After graduation from high school, Doug apprentice­d at H&R Doane. Following receiving his Charted Accountant designatio­n, he joined the RCAF. He was stationed in Camp Borden, Shilo Manitoba, Cypress, Ottawa and completed his career in Stadacona in Halifax. Upon retirement, he returned to his hometown of Springhill and quickly became involved in the community. He served on town council, was active in the Rotary Club, Legion and the Liberal Party. Doug was the family historian who will be missed dearly by all who knew him including his many cousins. The family would like to give special thanks to neighbors for their kindness over the years. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 Mcfarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-5972361) where a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 19th at 1P.M. with Ruth Gable, DLM officiatin­g. Burial will take place in West Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army Food Bank or charity of choice.
