Of Halifax, passed from this life peacefully on April 14, 2024 in Northwood Ivany Place in Bedford. Born June 12, 1927 in Sydney, NS, she was the only child of the late James S. Lawrie and the late Florence M. (Demont) Lawrie Zwicker. Following a move to Halifax in 1934, Dorothy attended Sir Charles Tupper School, the Halifax Ladies’ College and then transferre­d to Queen Elizabeth High School its opening year in 1942. Following a secretaria­l education, she was employed at Imperial Oil Ltd. in the engineerin­g department. Dorothy was a caring daughter who modelled love in action and was a caregiver for her own mother for a number of years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She was humble and kind with a ready smile and a delightful sense of humour. Because of her vibrant and deeply rooted faith, she demonstrat­ed love freely and touched many lives. She cared compassion­ately for people confined to their homes because of poor health. She visited them regularly and for many years she served the elderly and widows in her neighbourh­ood. As a committed follower of Jesus, her unwavering faith in him kept her strong and grounded throughout the years and provided her with complete peace as she was leaving this life to be in his presence forever. Dorothy was predecease­d by her husband of 70 years, Roy in 2019. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Bruce Havill; son, Gordon and his wife, Shirley (Todd); grandchild­ren, Allison Havill and her husband, Kevin Frame, Vernon, BC; Amy Havill Landymore and her husband, William, Wenham, MA; Graham Brunt and Laura Brunt, both of Halifax. She is further survived by her great-grandson, Griffin Landymore, and greatgrand­daughters, Violet and Ellie Landymore. A service of remembranc­e and thanksgivi­ng will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 in West End Baptist Church. Members of her family will be available to welcome guests at 10:20 a.m. and a reception will follow the service. A private family burial service will be held in Fairview Cemetery.
