It is with great sadness we announce that Nancy passed away peacefully, at the age of 61 at Hospice Halifax with her family by her side on April 21, 2024, after fighting a short battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, Nancy grew up by the ocean in Fox Point, NS. She graduated from Chester High School in 1981 and the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1983. Nancy made her home in Halifax, where she dedicated 40 years of her life to nursing as a Registered Nurse, most recently with the CVICU at the Halifax Infirmary and previously at 4 North of the Victoria General Hospital. As a beloved nurse, she always offered exceptiona­l care, comfort, and her beautiful warmth to all her patients. Her caring nature and profession­alism left an indelible mark on both her colleagues and the many lives she touched throughout her illustriou­s career. Nancy's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband of 31 years and love of her life, Rod; sons, Shawn (Emma), Kingston, ON and Andrew (Cassandra), Halifax. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Margaret ‘Margie’ Westhaver, Fox Point; sister, Natalie Jay (Gary); (nephews, Nathan and Donavan Jay), Upper Tantallon; brothers, Mark (Beverley) Bedford, Derrick (Donna); and niece, Erin Westhaver, Halifax. She is predecease­d by her father, Mark Westhaver. Beyond her profession­al accomplish­ments, Nancy embraced life with open arms and a joyous heart. She cherished the adventures and travels shared with her beloved husband, Rod, throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. She enjoyed gardening, bicycling at home and in Europe, hiking, and the occasional game of crib. Nancy loved summers at the family cottage on Mill Lake, which were times of pure bliss, filled with laughter, love, and the creation of lasting memories. The outpouring of generosity, love, and support from family, friends and colleagues during these past few months has been a source of immense comfort and gratitude, which Nancy appreciate­d so much. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax on Friday April 26th at 1p.m., reception to follow in the church hall. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the incredible staff at Hospice Halifax for their excellent, gentle, and compassion­ate care. Hospice Halifax is truly a special place.
