Two Halifax schools receive threats
Students at Halifax West High School were sent home early after a threatening message was found inside a bathroom stall at the school on Monday.
In an emailed statement, a Halifax Regional Centre for Education spokeswoman said the school on Thomas Raddall Drive became aware of a "potential threat directed at the school" on Monday morning.
"A message was written in a bathroom stall," Lindsey Bunin said. "School leaders immediately contacted police, who are now on site and investigating."
Bunin said the school has dismissed its students early "out of an abundance of caution and to allow police to investigate."
"The safety of students and staff is our highest priority, and all threats are taken seriously," she said.
Halifax Regional Police said officers were on scene and checking the school for safety concerns.
Anyone with information is asking to contact police at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers.
The threat is the latest in a series of threats and violent incidents at or near the school in recent months.
On April 15, the school was placed on a brief hold-and-secure after a young person was stabbed near the Lacewood transit terminal, which is less than a kilometre away.
Near the end of March, classes at Halifax West were cancelled for the day due to threats made against the school.
In February, several students were arrested after fights broke out at the school during lunch hour.
THREAT RECEIVED AT ECOLE SECONDAIRE DU SOMMET
Students and staff at École secondaire du Sommet on Larry Uteck Boulevard were also evacuated Monday afternoon due to a bomb threat.
In an email, parents were notified that staff and students had been relocated to Ecole Beaubassin, a school 1.5 kilometres down the street, after it had received a threat.
"We are currently working with police on next steps," a Conseil Scolare Acadien Provincial (CSAP) spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
Students were dismissed from Ecole Beaubassin at the regular dismissal time on Monday.
