Age 74, Truro. The family of Murray Wayne Smith are saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, April 28, 2024, with loved ones by his side in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was born in New Glasgow to the late Clarence and Isabelle (Mackenzie) Smith. Murray is survived by his wife, Karen (Connors); stepdaught­er, Amanda Nowell; stepson, Chris Kennedy (Amanda); step grandchild­ren, Lily and James Kennedy whom he adored; brother, Allan and sister, Elaine (Rick) Gautreau. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by brothers, Jamie and David; sister, Carol Maccallum and brother-in-law, Alden Maccallum. Murray worked at Burchell Macdougall for over 25 years during which time he started his own bailiff company, Murray W. Smith Bailiff Services Limited. He retired in 2014 at which time he gave responsibi­lity of his company to his stepdaught­er, Amanda. His passion was harness racing and he coowned several winning horses. Murray enjoyed trips to Florida, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and time at his cottage in Brule where he watched beautiful sunsets. In his younger years, he loved to play hockey and baseball, curl and golf. He also enjoyed an occasional game of poker with his friends. A special thanks to the CEHHC Hemodialys­is Unit that administer­ed Murray’s kidney dialysis over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Murray’s memory may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada – Nova Scotia. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5th from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Eileen Corah officiatin­g.
