A teenager who faces six charges, including attempted murder, from a stabbing in Prospect Bay on the weekend that sent a man to hospital has been released on conditions.

The boy, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breaching a youth sentence.

The accused was supposed to have a bail hearing Wednesday in Halifax youth court, but defence lawyer Lonny Queripel and Crown attorney Terry Nickerson informed the judge they had worked out release conditions.

Judge Gregory Lenehan released the boy on a $2,000 bail order with two sureties and placed him on house arrest at an address in Prospect Bay.

The teen can only leave the address for medical emergencies or appointments, or when in the company of a parent or guardian or an adult approved by them.

He is prohibited from possessing any firearms, contacting the victim or being within 25 metres of the man’s residence, school or place of employment.

Lenehan scheduled the case to return to youth court May 23.

RCMP and paramedics responded to a stabbing at a home on Prospect Road on Sunday at about 9:10 a.m.

The victim, a 42-year-old Prospect Bay man, was outside the residence when police arrived, RCMP said in a news release. Officers learned the man had been stabbed multiple times after a verbal argument with a youth he knew.

The suspect was arrested at the scene, RCMP said.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
