CADUE, Gwendolyn Mary

-

The family of Gwendolyn Mary Cadue are sad to share the news of her death on March 28, 2024, following a brief and sudden illness, while living in their winter home in Mexico. Gwen was the daughter of the late William Edgar Vergie, and Phyllis Ina (Lowe) Vergie. Born in Halifax, Mum lived a life devoted to caring, whether through her many roles as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or as a devoted wife, mother, and friend. But Mum’s best role, and where she was truly exceptional, was as the world’s best grandmother. Nanny G was never without a snack (being well-fed was important!) and, considering what a tiny woman she was, the world’s very best hugs. A lover of genealogy, history and antiques, she kept track of everything big and small (and no slip of paper was too small to capture the most important details). Gwen’s favourite times were on the family sailboat, or at the cottage near Chester, and she took great pride in tending to her perennial flower gardens. She was a member of the congregations of St. James and St. Mark’s Anglican churches, serving on the parish council of the latter, and alongside her mother, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mum was predeceased by her parents; as well as her older sister, Marie Buckland. She is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter, Meghan (Colin March); and grandson, Edward. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Karen (the late Drew Curlett); brother-in-law, Fred Buckland (Janet Westhaver); sister-inlaw, Deborah Cadue-Piggott (John Piggott); and nieces and nephews, Todd, Sean, Sarah, Anna, Kyle, Tara, Zoë, Naomi and Phoebe. Mum had many friends in Canada and Mexico, but a special mention to dear friends, Nancy Mahoney and Sharon Munden. Her family would like to express their deepest thanks to all those who have expressed condolences, dropped off food, and offered hugs and advice as they navigated the unique circumstances of her death. In your own ways you have made this grief easier to carry and we are grateful. Cremation has already taken place, with a graveside service for close friends and family to take place in Halifax at a later date, and a celebration of life in Chan Chemuyil, Mexico, in the new year. A spiritual person, Mum believed in angels – and she was our angel here on earth. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your choice in her name, or do your best to brighten someone else’s day with a smile.
