It is with great sadness that the family of Alan Bryce Shaw announces his death on May 14, 2024. After struggling with Parkinson’s for years, Alan passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care with family by his side. Born in Winnipeg, MB on Feb 8, 1937 he was the son of the late Thomas and Alma (Crowther) Shaw. Alan had a love of sports and music, participat­ing in hockey, football, curling, choir and playing piano. These passions continued with him later in life as he picked up tennis, cross country and downhill skiing, and golf. He continued singing in choirs including Truro’s Cantabile choir. Alan graduated from high school (St. James Collegiate) in 1955 as the recipient of the Governor General’s medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba in 1958 and soon moved to Kapuskasin­g, ON to start his career with Kimberly Clark. He moved to Saint John, NB with Kimberly Clark, where he met the love of his life Willa Lanford. They were married in April, 1961. Later, Alan became the Comptrolle­r for Baxter Dairies before moving to Truro, NS in 1974 as the VP of Finance for House of Hay. In 1978 he became the owner of Sparkling Spring Water Ltd. which he successful­ly managed and grew until 1991. After selling his business, Alan settled into retirement with Willa enjoying many activities and friends in Halifax, travelling to many places around the world, but his favourite place was sitting on the deck at their summer home in East River. Alan was predecease­d by his wife, Willa; and is survived by his sister Audrey (Jim) Montgomery; daughter Laura Shaw (John Harrison); son Jim Shaw (Shaunna MacIsaac); grandchild­ren Gareth Paterson, Alexandra Harrison (Dustin Radcliffe), Christophe­r Harrison, Lily and Parker Shaw, and Brett Delorey; two great-grandchild­ren, Jeffery and Magnolia Radcliffe; and two nieces, Jodi Summerfiel­d-Petch (George Moore) and her daughter Amy Petch. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebratio­n of life will be held on June 22, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. in Halifax. Burial will be at a later date at Camp Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care in the McNabb community for making Alan feel welcome and loved while there, and also comfortabl­e and at peace in his last days.
