Atlantic MPs make shadow cabinet

- ANDREA GUNN

Conservative party leader Andrew Scheer announced his shadow cabinet on Friday, and three Atlantic Canadians are among the ranks.

Nova Scotia's only Conservative MP and former PC MLA Chris d'Entremont, who represents the riding of West Nova, will serve as the critic for official languages as well as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. New Brunswick Southwest MP John Williamson, who briefly served as the director of communications for former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is the new labour critic, while longtime Fundy Royal MP Rob Moore will serve as critic for justice and Attorney General. Moore, who served as MP from 2004 until he was defeated in the 2015 Atlantic Liberal sweep, was appointed ACOA critic for the Conservatives following the 2015 election. He was the only Conservative Party critic who was not an MP or Senator.

“Our Conservative team is united, experienced and focused on finishing the job we started and replacing the Trudeau Liberals,” Scheer said in an emailed statement ... “The Shadow Cabinet I have announced today reflects the growing strength of our team and our commitment to work for Canadians from coast to coast.”

In the October election only four of 32 seats in Atlantic Canada went to the Conservatives, three of those were in New Brunswick.
