Age 88, of Dartmouth. The family of Hilda (Sooley) Guinchard are deeply saddened to announce her passing on November 30, 2019 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Hilda and her loving husband Steve were to have celebrated their 67th Anniversar­y on December 2nd. Hilda was born on October 30, 1931 in Hearts Content, N.L., to the late Alison and Annie Eliza (Sinyard) Sooley. Hilda was also predecease­d by her sisters, Louise, Harriet, Marjorie, Edna and Ruth. Hilda met Steve when she was working as a telephone operator in Toronto, Ont. After they married, they lived in Gimli, Man., Clinton, Ont., Greenwood, Seaforth, Ont., Halifax, Falls Church, Va. (while Steve was the military liaison in Washington, D.C., and Dartmouth, where she worked at the Woodlawn Medical Centre and lived most recently at Kinross, Parklands at the Lake. Hilda loved to travel with her husband across North America and Europe. She was the navigator for their five trips across the United States and Canada in a motorhome. She could do anything with a needle: sew, knit, crochet, needlepoin­t, embroidery and also hook rugs. Hilda was a voracious reader, and was involved with other arts and crafts. In addition to her husband Steve, Hilda is survived by her children, Keith (Fran), Ann, Richard (Karen Yust) and Jennifer (Kevin) Arbique; grandchild­ren, Chris (Heather), Shelby Sharpe (Travis), Tracy, and Maxine Sharpe; great-grandchild­ren, Owen and Everett. Hilda also leaves behind her beloved cat, Lucy. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3rd in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 4th in the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Nova Scotia. The Guinchard family thank the nurses and other medical staff at Dartmouth General Hospital and at the Geriatric Orthopaedi­c Rehabilita­tion Centre, Veterans Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care.
