First-place Axemen win in OT

Owen MacDonald scored in overtime to give the Acadia Axemen a 4-3 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday to close out the first half of the AUS men's hockey season.

Moncton's Maxime St-Cyr and Robbie Graham scored in the final two minutes of the game to force an extra session. Danick Crete had the other Moncton goal.

Jordy Stallard, Cristiano Digiacinto and Maurizio Colella also scored for the Axemen, who hold top spot in the standings with 28 points (14-4-0).

Reds 8, Huskies 1: Samuel Dove-McFalls netted a pair of goals in UNB's rout of Saint Mary's. Tyler Boland, Brady Gilmour, Kris Bennett, Joe Gatenby, Matthew Boucher and Alexandre Goulet added singles for the second-place Reds (134-0-26).

Mitchell Balmas had the SMU goal.

Tigers 3, Panthers 2:

Logan Johnston, Duncan MacIntyre and Matt Green scored to help Dalhousie end a three-game losing streak. The Tigers are in seventh place with a 4-12-2-10 mark.

Jordan Maher and Darian Pilon replied for the Panthers, who are in sixth place with a 6-8-3-15 record.

In women's action on Saturday:

X-Women 5, Panthers 2:

St. Francis Xavier fell behind 2-0 but Tyra Meropoulis scored a natural hat trick in the third period to lead the comeback win.

Meropoulis leads the league with 17 goals.

Emerson Elliott and Lacey Dimaulo had the other X-Women goals. Lexie Murphy and Tiah Scichilone had the UPEI markers. UPEI (14-2-1) heads into the break in second place with 29 points, three behind leaguelead­ing Saint Mary's (16-2-0). The X-Women are third with

25 points (12-5-1).

Tigers 4, Aigles Bleues 3:

Brooklyn Paisley scored twice in Dalhousie's victory. Danika Phillips and Tara Morning added singles for the Tigers while Pascale Lebeau, with two, and Emilie Lalancette replied for Moncton. Dal is in sixth place (5-13-0-10) while Moncton is seventh (3-14-1-7).

VOLLEYBALL

The Dalhousie Tigers fell to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 2523) in RSEQ action on Saturday at Dalpex.

Andrew Arseneau had seven kills and four aces for the Tigers, winless in eight matches in the Quebec league this season.
