Age 89 of Truro. We, the family of the late Gladys Mildred Parker (McCabe) Burns, are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother who went to be with the Lord on November 28, 2019. Born in Moncton, N.B., on July 31, 1930 to parents Harry and Dorothy Burns. Mom worked in the restaurant business where she met and married her first husband, Lewis Charles McCabe. Together they had eight children. Mom did her nursing career as a CNA. She worked at Colchester Regional Hospital and went on to work at various nursing homes from where she retired at age 56. Gladys married her second husband, Lawrence Parker and together they enjoyed travelling and playing cards. Mom loved to cook, entertain, bowl, and decorate for Christmas with the grandkids and great grandkids. Mom was predecease­d by her first husband, Lewis Charles McCabe; parents, Harry and Dorothy Burns (Wark); daughters, Linda Banks and Sheila Doyle; sister, Georgina Harrington; brothers, Robert and Donald Burns and second husband, Lawrence Parker. She is survived by sons, Roland McCabe (Judy), Steve McCabe (Shannon); daughters, Shirley Kurvial (Basil), Donna Mitchell, Susan Scott (Tim), Betty Ross (Peter); stepchildr­en, Trudy and Wayne Parker; brother, David Burns; sister, Joan Funk (Errol); along with several grandchild­ren, greatgrand­children, step grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. A Celebratio­n of Gladys’ life will be held in Debert Fellowship Centre with the Rev. David MacLean officiatin­g on Thursday, December 5th at 1 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Mom’s memory to The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada or The War Amps of Canada. Private family burial will take place at a later time in Bible Hill Cemetery.
