Age 85, of Glen Haven, passed away peacefully in Shoreham Village, Chester, on Friday, November 29, 2019. He was predecease­d by mother, Eva (Ayer); father, Harold; sisters, Ruth (Mitchell), Shirley (Temple), Helen (Dowell); and first wife Valerie, (Lunn). He is survived by wife, Julie (Duffus); children, Deborah Gue (Randy), Vancouver; Geoffrey (Sarah), Crousetown; Stephen, Halifax; Robert (Cynthia), Aurora, Ont.; Diane Hopper (Steven), Centrevill­e; and grandchild­ren, Lauren, Scott, Anna Louise, Amanda (Scott), Jason, Danielle, Carlie (Shawn), Sara, Jennifer (Eric), Joseph, Victoria, Rachel; greatgrand­children, Alexander and Avery; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was born in Halifax and spent many years in broadcasti­ng (radio and television), and later, the insurance industry. He had a lifelong love of music, which he passed on to all of his children. Ralph was accomplish­ed in trumpet and euphonium, playing in several bands since his school days. He loved to sing with the Chebuctone­s, the Bay Chorale and his church choir at St. Luke’s. He was very active in the sailing community and built a lovely schooner "Sybarite" in mother Eva’s backyard in the North End of Halifax. Later, he came into possession of the historic 1905 schooner "Adare" which provided many years of racing and cruising with wife Julie and his family. He was past commodore of the Nova Scotia Schooner Associatio­n. Ralph had a real gift for building, creating, and innovating and his family will cherish many related memories. His charm, keen sense of humor, and beautiful voice will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend sincere appreciati­on to the kind staff of Shoreham Village. Memorial contributi­ons in memory of Ralph made to shorehamfo­undation.ca, heartandst­roke.ca, alzheimer.ca, or a charity of your choice are appreciate­d by the family. Cremation has taken place and the service will be on Saturday, December 7th at 10 a.m. in St. Luke’s United Church in Upper Tantallon. Reception to follow.
