TRENTACOSTE, Giovanni

Passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of November 30, 2019, at the age of 83. Giovanni was very independent and did things his way, being self-sufficient almost to the very end. Born in Monreale, Sicily, he came to Canada in 1962. He was a very skilled Italian trained tailor and was well respected where he worked at Tip Top Tailors for 31 years. Giovanni and his wife Casimira (Sciortino) were married in 1962. They enjoyed exploring the outdoors, always taking time to fit in a picnic. Many weekends were spent at York Redoubt Park with family where Giovanni, an avid and skilled fisherman, would always take the many young nieces and nephews fishing for mackerel along the shore. Giovanni and Casimira took great pride in their impeccably kept home and yard; which contained many gardens, ornaments and souvenirs from their outdoor and traveling adventures. The many birdhouses in the backyard are testament to his life long love of birds, including the many budgies and lovebirds which shared their home for many years. Giovanni is survived by his brother, Franco; sister, Casimira; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Casimira; parents, Giuseppe and Maria (Contorno); brothers, Vito, Salvador, Gregorio; and sister Francesca. The family wishes to thank the Bayshore Home Health managers and caregivers, Hazel White at Continuing Care, VON, and the Palliative Care unit VG Site QEII team, especially Megan Summerfield. They were all invaluable in easing Giovanni through his final days. Visitation, where refreshments and snacks will be served, will be held Thursday evening, December 5th from 7-9 p.m., in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Halifax. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 6th, at 2 p.m., in St. Catherine’s Church, 6476 Bayers Rd, Halifax. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
