December 16, 1921 to November 30, 2019. It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Flora (MacDonald) Gillis of Hillsdale Road, Judique, on November 30, 2019, at the age of 97. She was the last surviving child of Catherine Sarah and Francis MacDonald (of St. Ninian, Inverness Co.). She was predecease­d by her loving husband, Robert Gillis; her first-born infant son, Daniel; and her siblings, John Dan, Duncan Francis, Rachael, John Archie and Isabel. In her early years, Mary Flora was honoured to be the housekeepe­r for Father Lauchie MacDonald from 1948-1955, which had a lasting impact on her faith. Mary Flora will be remembered as a caring person to many, always keen to share her Gaelic language oven baked goods and a cup of hot tea tea. She loved card games, bingo and Scottish music. She was a faithful parishione­r of St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique, with her rosary always at her side. Mary Flora is survived by her children, Roberta (Finlay) Sutherland, Kanata, Ont. and their sons Colin and Devon; Frank, Judique; Danny (Anita), Judique and their daughters Tanya, Erica and Kimberly; Eileen (Bill Matson) MacKay, Alliston, Ont. and her son Kyle; John (Maureen), Judique and their children Mikylah and Keenan; Kate (Ed) Storm, Bedford. She will also be missed by her great-grandchild­ren, Blake and Hunter; her sisters-in law, Caddie Graham, Jessie Gillis and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank their mother’s physicians, Dr. Bernie MacLean and Dr. Susie Egar, and all the nursing staff of the SeaBreeze wing of the Inverary Manor, for their compassion­ate care. Visitation for the late Mary Flora Gillis will be held today, December 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the community room of Judique Fire Hall. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. December 5th in St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Judique. Father Allen MacMillan officiatin­g. Burial to follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to St. Andrew’s Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciate­d. Funeral arrangemen­ts are entrusted to Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
