MESSERVEY, Donald L. "Don"

-

Age 69 of Halifax. After decades of telling his friends and family that he was "dying" of various ailments, Donald L. Messervey passed away peacefully in hospital on December 4, 2019. Since October 7, 1950, Don had been exaggerating every common cold and minor ache that he "suffered," all while enjoying a healthy, consistent diet of red meat, cigarettes, and Michelob Ultra. His fear for his health, combined with his absolute disdain for changing these obviously hazardous habits, was part of the whole beautiful, contrary being, that his friends and family loved so dearly. Hypochondria aside, Don was a devoted father, loving husband, animal lover, and best friend that you could ever ask for. Between golf games and riding his custom Harley Davidson motorcycle, Don could be found making coworkers at Wawanesa Insurance crack a smile, delivering care packages to sick friends, brightening a stranger’s day, and relaying the entire story of both John Wick and John Wick 2 in stunning detail. Armed with a kilowatt smile and the occasional inappropriate joke, Don lit up every room he entered with unparalleled vibrancy and warmth. Unless, of course, he had the flu. Don is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Messervey; his daughter, Lauren Messervey; his son-in-law, Mark Gibson; his brother, Gary Messervey; his sister-in-law, Janet Messervey; and a myriad of highly logical friends and family who were really tired hearing about how much his finger hurt. We truly believe that the satisfaction Don has attained by being finally able to say, "I told you so," can transcend the world beyond, and that is accompanied by his signature, hearty laugh. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14th followed by a reception, both in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, Don Messervey and his family would prefer a donation to a charity of your choosing, or performing a random act of kindness for a person in need.
