MacASKILL (Cameron), Margaret "Joyce"

Age 87 of Dartmouth. The family of Joyce (Cameron) MacAskill is deeply saddened to announce her passing on December 7, 2019 at home. Joyce was born on July 30, 1932 in North Vancouver, B.C. to the late Dougald and Hazel (Whitman) Cameron. She grew up in Prince George, B.C. on their farm with her sisters, Mary, Alice and Beverley doing daily chores and riding their horses. Her 30-plus years of teaching career began in Masset, Queen Charlotte Islands where she met her Navy communicat­or to be husband Neil spending most of their married lives in Dartmouth. Joyce was active in her community, a board member for Cole Harbour Heritage Farm, Dartmouth Historical Society, Piping Plover Guardian, and Dartmouth Volksmarch Club. Her love of nature, animals and bridwatchi­ng brought may joyful years. Working in her "hobby" room, her keen interest in landscape painting, stained glass pieces, and her beautiful garden beds have left numerous family treasures. In additon to her husband Neil, Joyce is survived by her children, Dan (Patricia) and Tom; grandchild­ren, Jeff and Kim (Sheldon) Lidstone; greatgrand­children, Paige, Anthony and Ethan; sisters, Alice and Mary; cousins, Blanche and Carol, all of British Columbia. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 13th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14th in Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth with reception to follow. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. The MacAskill family thanks the nurses and other medical staff at Dartmouth General Hospital, the Palliative Care team for all their kindness and care.
