SHORT, Robert "Bob"

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Short, age 93 of Bedford. He was a son of the late William and Bertha (Blakeney) Short. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University in 1951. He started his career at Canadian Acceptance Corporatio­n prior to moving to Halifax where he opened a new office of CAC. During that time, he met his future wife Betty. He then joined Eastern Equipment where he served as vice-president. Following this time, he co-founded the firm of Atlantic Equipment and served as president. He was always interested in Bedford and was part of the process of Bedford becoming a town and later was elected as a member of the town council for eight years. Following that, he worked for the province as president of the Bedford Waterfront Corporatio­n after pioneering as a member of the planning committee. Following his retirement, he served on the board for Capital Health as financial advisor. Bob’s favourite hobby was playing music, starting as a trumpeter in university and playing for many years with the Halifax Continuing Education Concert and Jazz Bands, then later with the Halifax Concert Band. After he and Betty started their family they enjoyed spending time at their family camp, Kamsogooch, on the Eastern Shore swimming, boating, fishing and doing ongoing improvemen­ts. It is a property still being enjoyed by the next generation. He loved his garden and the annual replanting of his dahlias. During the growth of the village of Bedford, he volunteere­d with Bedford Ratepayers Associatio­n, Bedford School Board, Bedford Fire Commission, Brookside Cemetery and several other committees. He had a strong faith and was an active lifelong member of Bedford Baptist Church serving in many capacities with sincerity. Bob will be remembered most as a kind and loving father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughters, Karen MacRae (David), Barbara Short (Steve Peverill), Brenda Grantham (Richard); grandchild­ren, Meagan (Andrew), Emily, Chris, B.J. (Laura), Andrew (Lindsay), Michael (Courtney); and greatgrand­children, Logan, Lewis, Arthur, Maxwell, Ava and Isla; siblings, Ken (Thelma), Barbara; sister-in-law, Betty George. Predecease­d by brother, Reg; brother-in-law, Howard. A celebratio­n of life will be held in Bedford Baptist Church, 158 Rocky Lake Dr., Bedford on Friday, December 13th at 2 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bedford Baptist Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
