A fa­tal sin­gle-car col­li­sion early Thurs­day af­ter­noon on High­way 103 near Lake­side closed the high­way in both di­rec­tions.

Hal­i­fax Dis­trict RCMP said in a re­lease that they re­sponded to the scene at 12:30 p.m. A car with three peo­ple in it left the high­way, hit the ditch and rolled, po­lice said.

One oc­cu­pant was ejected from the ve­hi­cle and was pro­nounced de­ceased at the scene. Po­lice did not re­veal the gen­der of the per­son who died.

The other two oc­cu­pants were trans­ported to hos­pi­tal with un­de­ter­mined in­juries.

Hal­i­fax Re­gional Fire and Emer­gency and paramedics also re­sponded to the crash. An RCMP col­li­sion an­a­lyst was at the scene Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.

By late af­ter­noon, High­way 103 re­mained closed to all ve­hi­cle traf­fic in both di­rec­tions be­tween Exit 2, the St. Mar­garets Bay Road turnoff, and Exit 3, the Tim­ber­lea exit.

Po­lice said the high­way was ex­pected to be closed for some time and trav­ellers were ad­vised to avoid the area and seek al­ter­nate routes.
