EMBREE, Ruth Catherine
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Embree, age 96 of Port Hawkesbury, on Sunday, December 22, 2019, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Ruth was born on July 1, 1923, to her parents, the late Freeman and Mary (MacKinnon) Reynolds. Ruth is survived by her children, Mary (Dave) Gowers, Kevin (Sharon), Darlene, Brenda, Brian (Joan), Adelene (Vernon), Freeman (Donna), Alanna, Wilson (Denine); sister, Sadie (Charlie) Ryan. Also left to mourn are stepchildren, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Freeman; daughter, Beverley MacQuarrie; son-in-law, Tommy MacQuarrie; granddaughter, Kimberly Embree; grandson, Keith Embree; a granddaughter in infancy; brothers, John, Artie and Elmer Reynolds; sisters, Greta Wendelbo, Jean Reynolds and Tina Gaskel. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Church and a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury and the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved dancing and she dispatched for Embree’s Taxi up into her 80’s. She always had time for her family especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family is sincerely grateful to her daughter, Darlene for her dedicated care to mom over the past years. We are also thankful for the professional and compassionate care she received from the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and Strait Richmond Hospital and also to the homecare workers, thank you! Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 3rd from St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury with Lorna MacRury officiating. Burial will be in Southbrook Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please support Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, St. Mark’s United Church or Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
