CLONEY, Stephen Dale

-

With heavy hearts the Cloney Family announces that Stephen Dale Cloney, 61, of Truro, and formerly of Oxford, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2020. Born in Springhill, Stephen was a son of the late Ray and Winnie (Simpson) Cloney. Steve was a dad that made both his sons proud and was someone his boys could always confide in, talking to them about all the aspects of life. He passed on his passion for pool, his meticulous nature, work ethic and zest for a good time. His love was undeniable and could be felt before seen. As grampy, Steve would beam with pride, a huge smile on his face while wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He dealt in cash and his oldest grandchild, Julia, knew it as she would wait for her favourite present. Steve was a cornerstone of the Cloney Clan and a piece that cannot be replaced. In his early years, Steve ran "Gordie’s Place" pool hall in Oxford before heading west and starting a career in the lumber industry that lasted nearly two decades and ended back in Nova Scotia at Brookfield Lumber. Steve served the community of Truro for the next two decades driving Taxi for both U-need-a and Layton’s. Steve was a reliable and dedicated worker who provided dependable transportation and advice for many individuals. He was comfortable with all walks of life with countless friends and confidants over the years. He was an excellent pool player, with natural skill that was hard to match. He enjoyed organizing and documenting important events in his family’s lives, especially his sons and kept a beautiful collection of photographs. Simply put, if you were with Steve you had a good time. Stephen is survived by his sons, Trevor (Lisa) and Chris (Kellie); and his adoring grandchildren, Julia, Owen, Ella, and Baby Boy Cloney (due July 2020). He is survived by his brother, Edward; nieces and nephews, Michael, Randy, Ricky, Patti, Jamie, Tony, Carla and Donna. Stephen raised his sons with Cheryl Little (Ellis), and although their relationship ended many years ago, she remained a beloved friend, family member and partner throughout his life. He was predeceased by his sisters, Sharon Adams and Kay Gordon; as well as his brothers, Charles and Doug Cloney. Arrangements are in the care of Macdiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford (902-4472930). A service will be announced at a later date.
