Of Lunenburg, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at age 87. Born in Halifax on April 6, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Dr. Samuel and Isobel (Carthew) Marcus. Growing up in Bridgewate­r she completed her high school education at Netherwood School in Rothesay, N.B. She attended University of Kings College in Halifax. Barbara was very fashion conscious and honed her skills working with Simpson-sears in Montreal as a clothing buyer, and later after her family was raised, she returned to retail working in specialty boutiques in Halifax. Always considered a Bridgewate­r gal until she met a dashing young Lunenburge­r, Sherman Zwicker. They married on June 30, 1957 and remained in Lunenburg until Sherman’s passing in November of 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Claude Bordage), Hubley; Andrea (Derek Langston), Lunenburg; son, Peter (Penny), Lunenburg; grandchild­ren, Fenwick (Naomi Swim), Marcus (Katherine Witherspoo­n), Joshua, Alexa Bordage, Sarah and Samuel Mack. Barbara had an undying love of Lunenburg. This was evidenced by her dedicated service to the community. She was a founding member of the Lunenburg Craft Festival, Lunenburg Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, a member of the Lunenburg Art Gallery, and the Heritage Society, Fisheries Exhibition, as well as a member of the Lunenburg Golf Course and Lunenburg Yacht Club. A former Town Councillor for the Town of Lunenburg and was a member of the Lunenburg Waterfront Associatio­n and Bluenose Preservati­on Trust. She was recognized for her volunteeri­sm by the Province of Nova Scotia, was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II’S Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals and instrument­al in the building of the Lunenburg Bandstand, Barbara’s service to the community will long be remembered and cherished as a blessing to many. She was a woman who knew how to enjoy life and treasured the gift of her family and time with friends. Barbara loved to travel, in particular, traveling with her husband Sherman on his many trips to the West Indies and in later years they enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmothe­r who supported and took an active interest in her families endeavors. She has left a wonderful legacy to the lives of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Besides her parents, Barbara was predecease­d by her husband, Sherman Fenwick Homer Zwicker; brother, John; sister, Anne, and her beloved Rosie. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Harbour View Haven for their care. Funeral Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service celebratin­g Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
