-

The annual Mayworks Festival, celebrating the connection between working people and the arts, will host its 2020 edition entirely online this year, with contributions from a variety of performing arts groups, individual creators and other organizations.

Starting on May 1, the “new special digital edition for days of physical distancing” will include streaming screenings, playlists, broadcasts and more.

“With the global impact of COVID-19, we are hoping to bring arts, entertainment, and social justice to the homes of Nova Scotians by presenting an exciting and varied virtual program, including a new and evolving project: Voice From the Pandemic: COVID 19 & Work,” said Mayworks organizers in a statement announcing the 2020 online edition.

“Our goal at Mayworks is to highlight and champion work and workers; we can't think of a more important period in our collective memory to do so.”

Other Mayworks programming highlights include Test Their Logik, The Big Sing, Dog Island, a National Film Board of Canada playlist, Reel Justice, Dapopo Theatre and two solitary soundwalks, Zuppa Theatre Co.'s Vista and Walking Gottingen by Jayde Tynes and Francella Fiallos.

In lieu of selling tickets to live events and screenings, Mayworks Halifax is asking participants to consider making a tax-deductible donation. Full details about the schedule and program availability will be announced in the weeks to come on the event website at mayworkshalifax.ca.
