WHITMAN, Lawrence Leander Sr.
Age 91 passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Inglisville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Olive (Corkum) Whitman. Lawrence and his wife Bertha managed Chipman Farms, Tupperville for 40 years. Earlier years he was employed with Beaver Fruit Coop, Land and Forests Nursery in Lawrencetown. Dad loved woodworking, weaving apple baskets and doing wood carvings. He also enjoyed playing 45s, watching horse and ox pulls at exhibitions. Dad loved his music. He loved playing his guitar and knew the words to every song everyone was singing. On his 90th birthday he sang with his five children. Dad loved jam sessions and would go to every one that he could. He enjoyed the musical entertainment at the Meadows and at Mountain Lea. Dad will be sadly missed by his loving family: daughters, Terry Silver, Halifax and Round Hill; Phyllis (Kevin) Mclean, Lequille; Dale Whitman, Dartmouth; sons, Aubrey Whitman, Mountain Lea Lodge; Lawrence Jr. (Sonny) (Sue Huelin), Herring Cove; sister, Betty O’neil, Paradise; Frances (Earl) Whynot, Brickton; brother, Carroll Corkum, Lawrencetown; grandchildren, James, Jimmy (Laura), Johnny (Brenda), Carol, Cynthia, Natasha, Tia (Alexi), Greggory, Kody (Melanie), Kolin (Katie), and 13 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Dad was so proud of his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha; twin daughters, Jean Stoddart and Joan Connell; brothers, Lester, and David in infancy; son-in-law, Gordon Silver; brother-in-law, Eric O’neil; and sister-in-law, Laura Corkum; many nieces and nephews. Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Inglisville United Baptist Church or the Inglisville Community Hall. Due to the circumstance of the Covid 19 pandemic a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. 902-855-3448.
