Age 83, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Lorne, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his daughter by his side. Born in Lorne, he was a son of the late John Dan and Catherine Christine (Maclean) Crockett. Ian began working as a young boy on the family farm, developing a love for farming that lasted throughout his life. In his late teens, he began working for the Canadian National Railroad with the extra gang, traveling throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Ian sought new adventure and moved to Quincy, Mass., where he was employed as an apprentice meat cutter for a short time and then he moved to Ontario where he worked on a dairy farm. Settling down, he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce, a career he thoroughly enjoyed for 27 years. Following, he returned to work the family farm with his brother, Rae, fulfilling his lifelong dream and where he was the happiest. Concurrently, Ian served with the Commissionaires until he was 78 years old. Recently, Ian was grateful for placement in Glen Haven Manor to be with his wife. Besides farming, Ian enjoyed airplanes, doing sudoku puzzles and was an avid reader. He was very kind to animals and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. Ian leaves a legacy of strength, resolve and hard work to his family.
