It is with overwhelming sadness, that the family of David Clayton Smith, announces his sudden passing on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at the age of 67. "Absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8. David, born in Ottawa, Ont., was the son of Clayton and Marilyn Smith (Donald Ernst), and was predeceased by his father, Clayton in 1993. David will be lovingly and always remembered by his wife of 47 years, Darlene, and their sons, Wayne (Gillian) and Corey (Holly). Poppy held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Thomas, Mathew, Hailey, Emma and Jack, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Susan, and brother Keith, both of Ontario; and sisters, Lee Anne and Sandy, who reside in British Columbia; as well as many nephews and nieces. After completing an Engineering degree, David was employed with Unisys Canada until his retirement. Often referred to as a mentor and advisor, his wisdom, along with his sense of humour will be treasured by those whose lives he touched. While his hobbies, interests and skills were varied, he excelled at woodworking. The numerous furniture projects he crafted are a testament to his enjoyment and perfection of the art. David was a long-time member of Faith City Church and served in various capacities during that time, while living in Halifax. A son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, advisor and mentor to many, his memory will remain in our hearts forever. A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Faith City Church, Halifax, NS or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
