HOLESWORTH, Byard Douglas "Doug"

November 6, 1943 - April 20, 2020. It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Byard (Doug/papa) Holesworth on April 20th in Wetaskiwin, Alta., at the age of 76 years. Doug was born in Stewiacke, and was the third oldest of four children. Doug will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Dorina (Doreen) Holesworth; their children, Steve Holesworth (Nan Harrison) of Calgary; Edith Holesworth (Joe Ruether) of Peace River; and grandsons, Kyle and Noah Ruether. He will also be missed by his extended family, sistersin-law, Leona, Geraldine (Darryl), Marieanne (Daniel), Barbara (Roland) Chris and Loretta; godchildre­n, Doris, Cory and Matthew; one aunt; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces/ nephews, cousins and friends. Doug was predecease­d by his parents, Fenton and Edith Holesworth; sister, Evelyn; brothers, Jack and Harold; mother and father-in-law, Adelard and Medora Drysdelle; brothers-in-law, Jim Willard, Terry Thomson, Clarence Drisdelle, and Jim Kennedy; and sister-in-law, Diane Thomson. Doug joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces on February 14, 1962. After training, Doug was stationed in Chatham, N.B., as a Firefighte­r where he met the "Love of his Life" Doreen. They were married in November 1964. Doug remained a firefighte­r until he remustered in 1975 to a RM Tech for the remainder of his career. He retired in November 1987 with 26 years service. He became a Civilian employee working on the base in the Officers Mess Hall, where he continued to fulfill his love for food preparatio­n and special events. Doug always looked forward to his annual hunting trips with his wife and friends, weekly card games, gardening and fishing. He loved spending quality time with his grandsons, family and friends. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebratio­n of Life will be held at a later date, with updates appearing on the Baker Funeral Chapel website.
