Died on April 23, 2020, in Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Dunvegan, Inverness Co., in 1924, Father Gus, the youngest of a family of 12, was a son of the late Donald Joe and Mary Isobel (Collins) Macleod (of Dunvegan, Inverness Co.). He is survived by his beloved sister, Margaret Maclellan, New Waterford; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Christine Macleod, Dunvegan. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on June 7, 1952 by His Excellency, Most Rev. John R. Macdonald in St Ninian’s Church, Antigonish. He was the 25th member of St. Margaret’s Parish, Broad Cove to be ordained and he celebrated his first Solemn High Mass at St. Margaret’s on June 8th, 1952. He served as Assistant on July 2, 1952 at Immaculate Conception, Sydney Mines; on February 14, 1956 appointed Diocesan Chancellor, Chaplain, St. Martha’s Hospital, November 1; replaced as Chaplain, Fulltime Chancellor, August 27, 1958, Assistant, St. Ninian’s Cathedral, July 22, 1963, Family Life Bureau, Nazareth House, Sydney, Diocesan Director, June 29, 1966, St. Mary’s Parish, Big Pond; Administra­tor, August 1, 1968, St. James Parish, Gardiner Mines, Parish Priest, Director of the Retreat Center, Gardiner Mines; June 1, 1969, St. Joseph’s Hospital Board, President, August, 1970, St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney; Pastor, 1971, Survey (trip) re: Religious Education programs, October 1977, Appointed Dean of Sydney Deanery (three year term), Summer 1978, six-week retreat, Guelph, Ont.; July 25, 1979, appointed Rector of St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish; October, 1981, appointed Dean, Antigonish Deanery (for three-year term), June 29, 1983, granted a year’s Sabbatical, June 13, 1984, St. Anthony’s Parish, Glace Bay; Parish Priest, January, 1986, appointed to Council of Priests, four-year term, July, 1987, St. Gregory’s Parish, New Glasgow, Parish Priest, retired June 29, 1994, went to Toronto and worked in Hospital Chaplaincy. He was predecease­d by siblings, Aurelia Macleod, Donald, Collins, JD (Mary), Kay Grant (Jack), Finlay, Sister Anne Macleod, CND, Rev. Colonel Macleod, Alex (Pearl), and Roderick (Christine). Funeral Mass will be held at a later date in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove. Memorial donations in memory of Rev.
