Age 71 of Advocate Harbour, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in Colchester­east Hants Health Centre, Truro, with his wife Virginia, and special aunt, Rev. Phyllis Nesbitt by his side. Born in Advocate Harbour, he was the fourth born child of Stewart and Myrna (Rector) Macgilliva­ry. Dwight graduated from Cumberland Regional Vocational School in Springhill with a welding certificat­e in 1967. He then went to work at the Halifax Shipyards but always longed for home to start his own business. He built his first log trailer in 1978 for his uncle LG Macgilliva­ry & Son. In 1980, he constructe­d his welding shop and did portable welding throughout the region. He looked after repairs at the Scott Paper Saw Mill for many years, while still operating his own business. He bought his first grader in 1985 to work on Scott paper roads throughout the area. After the closing of the saw mill in the early 1990’s, Dwight started to manufactur­e Mac Trailers full time (both tag-along and pony dumps), as well as manufactur­ed Mighty Mac Wood Splitters for many years. More recently, he continued to operate the wood splitter and grader aspect of the company with his son, Scott. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia (Rector) Macgilliva­ry; daughter, Shelley Macgilliva­ry and her children, Bailee-lynn Macgilliva­ry-downs and Jesse William Downs; his son, D. Scott Macgilliva­ry (Coralee), and their son, Devin; brother, Carvel Macgilliva­ry (Debbie); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. As well, special family friends, Caroline Foote, Pat and Barry. He was predecease­d by sisters, Camilla, Judy; brother, Donald. With respect to the health safety of others surroundin­g the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebratio­n of Dwight’s life will be scheduled at a later date once health restrictio­ns are lifted. Memorial donations may be made to the Cumberland Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) or to the Allenville Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
