RANKIN (Macdonald), Christina Belle "Christy"

-

It is with great sadness, yet great joy for a life well-lived (93 years), that the family of Christy (Macdonald) Rankin announces her passing on April 27, 2020. Mom passed away peacefully at her home in Mabou Harbour with her family by her side. Born in Hillsdale, Judique, she was a daughter of John A. "Neil the Island" and Christina (Maceachern) Macdonald. Growing up in Glengarry, Mom was surrounded by fiddle music, Gaelic songs and dancing. Mom was a great step dancer and came from a long line of quality step dancers and she carried on the tradition in her own beautiful style. Mom’s strong catholic faith was always a comfort to her. She was a beautiful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She cared deeply for each and every one of us and always extended a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved to laugh and her door was always open to visitors who never left without a cup of tea, delicious homemade bread, apple pie or a little dileag. Mom worked at Mary’s Hill Home, Mabou and was blessed with lifelong friends whom she held dear. One of Mom’s most treasured times was when her sisters came home from "away" for summer vacation. The laughs and enjoyment of being together was precious to her. She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Karen), Jackie (Darlene), Andy (Siby) and Joe; daughters, Marian (Angus Maceachern), Cathy Campbell, Margaret Ann (Paul Matheson); sisters, Theresa Gillis, Magdalen Macdonell; sister-friend, Theresa (Glencoe) Macneil and brother-in-law, Jerome Gillis; sisters-in-law, Jean Macdonald and Mary Macdonald; grandchildren, Jackie, Jody, Jeannie, Jillian, Jordan, Amanda, Mark, Sheena, Janna, Ryan, Melissa, Daniel, Megan, Jessica, Matthew, Molly, Logan, Lisa, Andrew, Nick, Krista, Katie, Brian, Finlay and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart, as well as her fourlegged companion, Rory. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Finlay Archie; daughter, Pauline Ann; son-in-law, Conrad; sisters, Annie Laurie, Katie Mae, Margie; brothers, Neil "Charles" (infant), Neil Charlie and Alex Hughie. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Sylvia and Ethel for their support, Dr. Egar, Dr. Ritter, Lori Ann, our Home Care workers and our Continuing Care nurses. Thank you to Father Bernie Macdonald and Father Danny Maclennan for their blessings and Brian Macphee for faithfully bringing Mom the Eucharist. A celebration of Mom’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or your local food bank.
