HEMSWORTH, Georgina Marie "Gena"

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing on May 1, 2020 of Georgina "Gena" Marie Hemsworth, 78, Halifax. Born in Halifax in 1942, Gena was the only daughter of the late Mary (Mayo) and George Hemsworth (Halifax). After earning her Secretarial Certificate from the Halifax Vocational School (HVS) in the late 60s, Gena was recruited back to HVS as Secretary to the Guidance Office until she retired in 1994. She and Neil enjoyed their early retirement traveling to visit family and friends in Ontario and summer trips to Prince Edward Island. A proud southpaw, Gena bowled and played darts in many leagues over the years, and also enjoyed bingo with friends and visits to the Legion. She was a wonderful baker, always timing our family visits with her bread pudding and delicious pies. She loved, and was loved by her family, and had a special place in her heart for babies and all animals. She had a gentle spirit and a strong disposition. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her longtime partner, Neil Mosher; oldest brother, John "Jack" (Halifax), and twin brother George (Ontario). She is survived by younger brother, Ronald "Ron", Toronto; her special niece/godchild, Jylene Simmons (Alan Heighton), as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephew. Gena enjoyed her final years living with Jylene while being surrounded by family. She especially enjoyed the laughter and excitement of Jylene’s five grandchildren. She will be missed and remembered through stories and laughter. A special thank you to Deacon Dan Bowden for his thoughtful and caring blessings and prayers of comfort. Cremation has taken place. A private family ceremony will take place with Christian Burial once rules on gatherings permit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to your local SPCA.
