KOVACS, Rosa Elizabeth

-

February 14, 1937- April 29, 2020. With broken hearts we say goodbye to our mother, Rosa Elizabeth Kovacs, born in Pacsa, Hungary, to Lajos and Iren (Weiller) Bajzik. At the tender age of 19, she escaped Hungary, with her husband, Thomas, a Hungarian Freedom Fighter, and their baby, Barbara. In November 1956, they crossed the border into Austria, in time to give birth to daughter Rosemary. The decision for a safer and better life had our young family emigrate to New Brunswick, Canada. Mom always said Canada was the best move they ever could have made, and was so happy to become a Canadian citizen. In Canada, daughter Michele and son Thomas were born. Until all of her children finished school and left home, Mom was a stay at home mother. During that time she volunteered for a number of organizations, after which she joined the work force as a jeweller. She earned the designation of G.J. - Graduate Jeweller, with top marks in Canada. Her career as a valued manager with Walter’s Jewellers was rewarded with management positions in whichever city Mom and Dad moved to, and earned her place as a most valuable employee/manager in the company. A hard worker, she excelled in her field and enjoyed every moment of her employment. Retirement brought Mom and Dad to Halifax, allowing them to be closer to family and to enjoy the Maritimes again. Summers were enjoyed gardening and winters were spent in the Yucatan, Mex. walking the beach, bartering with jewellers at the markets, reading and finally relaxing. When Mom’s health required more care than Dad could provide, Mom moved to the Admiral Long Term Care, Dartmouth. The quality of care she received was made possible by a team of extraordinary, kind and dedicated caregivers who have the eternal gratitude of her children. Mom was predeceased by her parents and by her beloved and devoted husband of 65 years, Thomas, five short months ago. We know she missed him! Left behind to celebrate her life are her children, Barbara (David Stanfield), Rosemary (Rodger Perry), Michele and Thomas; grandchildren are Ken, David, Matthew, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Michele, Julianna, Sam and Killian. Left to mourn are also extended family in Canada and Hungary. Cremation has taken place. Because of the current circumstances surrounding public gatherings, there will no celebration of life at this time. Support for charitable causes seeking cures or relief for those suffering from cognitive issues would be welcomed by the family.
