NICHOLAS, Mary Lou

It is with heavy hearts and overwhelmi­ng sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Lou Nicholas, age 71 of Pictou Landing First Nation which occurred May 1, 2020 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Alice (Knockwood) Francis. She looked forward to her yearly Ste. Anne de Beaupre pilgrimage with her immediate family and friends. She also enjoyed her time at her camp at Maligomish, going on adventures with her family while passing on her traditiona­l teaching of basket-making, quill work, leather and beadwork, sweet grass-picking and storytelli­ng. She most enjoyed her time with her husband hunting, trapping, fishing and gathering. Momma Lou loved her bingo and metal detecting. Mary Lou leaves behind her children, Elizabeth (Leonard), Angela, Anthony Jr. (Jennifer), Linda Lou and Vanessa; grandchild­ren, April (Brad), Kyle (Felicia), Alaina, Megan, Renae, Dylon and Sierra; great-grandchild­ren, Madison (Lucas), Kyle jij, Kaylie and Brilynn; great great-grandchild­ren, Maelynn and Lillianne; brothers, Don (Melanee), Allan (Mary), John Andrew; sisters, Linda, Delores, Ann (Donnie), Deanna (Joe); sister-in-law, Shirley Francis; also many nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her. Mary Lou was predecease­d by her husband, Anthony Sr.; daughter, Cecelia Marie; her parents, Dennis and Alice Francis; brothers, Gilbert, Dennis, Roddie and Randall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Out Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation at a later date.
