It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Mamie Francis, age 88, on Monday, April 20, 2020, in Northwood Centre, Halifax. Mamie was Born on August 26, 1931 in Stones Cove, N.L., to parents Albert and Mabel Pope. She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, Melvin; brother, Roland; sister, Fanny; as well as many dear friends and relatives. She is survived by her children, Donna Francis, Elaine Wilkie (Michael), Heather Francis (Ron Albert) and Paul Francis (Patricia); as well as her beloved grandchildren, Erin Francis (Jeff Yeung), Sarah Francis (Brandon), Brian Francis, Colin Wilkie (Katelyn), Alex Wilkie (Melanie), Jordan Albert; great-grandchild, Jonah Yeung; and many nieces and nephews, with a special place in her heart for Lloyd Pope, Albert Pope, Ron Francis and Joan Pope. Mom was an active member of the ACW, Married Couples Association, Alter Guild, and was a local Avon representative. She loved to knit, sew and crochet. Her talents were wellknown for making outfits/dresses and alterations for dance recitals, graduations, weddings and other formal events. After Dad’s passing, Mom relocated to Halifax to be closer to her children. She cherished her children and her extended family. She was very proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. One of her happiest moments was on December 27, 2019 when she became a great-grandmother with the birth of Jonah Yeung. She loved nothing more than the opportunity to talk about her family, grandchildren and greatgrandchild to anyone who would listen. We have so many cherished memories of Mom, those that we were a part of and the stories of her younger life. We will miss her everlasting love (hugs and kisses), laughter and kindness. We would like to thank our many friends and family for their support, kind words, thoughts and condolences during this time. Thank you to the frontline staff at Northwood, those that became Mom’s friend’s, considered her as family, and shared in her stories. A family service with prayers officiated by Rev. Douglas Beck has taken place in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service and burial will be scheduled for a later date.
