MILLER, Raymond Stanley

-

Age 86, lost his brief battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at his home in Dartmouth on Sunday May 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1934 to Graydon and Beulah (Hersey) Miller of Yarmouth, and as a boy growing up in Yarmouth "Lefty" loved to play basketball and softball, go fishing with friends, and catch the ferry to Boston to see his Red Sox play at Fenway Park. He married Glenda Falle in 1958 and soon moved to Halifax and then to Dartmouth where they raised a family and lived happily for over 60 years. Ray began his career at the Texaco Refinery in Dartmouth before becoming an Assessor with the Province of Nova Scotia where he served for 25 years before his retirement. He was a master carpenter and woodworker in his spare time and among his many projects he designed and built two cottages for his family in Tatamagouche. It was there he most enjoyed boating, golfing, photography, and "happy hours" with family and friends overlooking Barrachois Harbour. "Grampie" traded in his tools and golf clubs for model trains and wine-making, and continued to enjoy many family trips, including a memorable return to Fenway for his 80th birthday. He will be dearly missed by Glenda, his wife of 62 years; both of his children, Cindy (Gary Herbert) and Peter (Kori Ferneyhough); and his grandchildren, Joel Herbert, Hannah Miller, and Sarah Miller. He is also survived by his beloved older brother, Gerry of Cumberland, Maine. Deepest thanks to his doctors and nurses for their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, Ray’s family would appreciate donations in his memory to the Victorian Order of Nurses at: www.von.ca There will be no funeral or memorial service and his ashes will be laid to rest by his family in Lockerby Cemetery in Tatamagouche.
