MORRISSEY (Hyland), Eleanor Mae "Ellie"

-

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Eleanor Mae Morrissey (Hyland) known as Ellie by family and friends, in Northwood Halifax Campus on May 1, 2020, at the age of 82. Born October 10, 1937, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Ralph and Frances Hyland. She was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill); brother, Doug; sister, Donna Beazley; and son-inlaw, Peter Vincent. Eleanor is survived by her loving children, Jackie, David (Denise), Robert, Pam (Tom), Hantsport; Wendy (Tom) Ontario; Susan (Keith) Ontario; Todd, British Columbia; and Dawn. Also survived by her grandchildren, Erin (Daylan), Jarret, Amanda, Kate, Megan, Chasidi, Lauren and Gillian; great-grandson, Sam; sister-inlaw, Joyce Hyland; brother-inlaw, David Beazley; and many nieces and nephews. In her early years she was very busy being a very caring and giving mother to eight children and later doting on her grandchildren. Often she could be heard saying, "oh that’s one of my kids, I have a bunch" as she chuckled. She enjoyed telling us ghost stories, painting ceramics, swimming, walking and reading. She had a great sense of humour and although she struggled with Alzheimer’s in her last years, that sense of humour was still present. Eleanor succumbed to complications due to COVID-19. The family would like to thank the staff of 7C Northwood Halifax Campus for their care and compassion, with special thanks to Shelley O’toole for your kindness to "Ribsy’s Mom" during her time at 7 Centre and keeping us connected with mom via phone calls and Facetime during the pandemic. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
