ACTON, Jean Viola

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Jean Viola Acton of Halifax, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2020 on her 87th birthday in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax April 28, 1933, she was a daughter of Mabel Hussey and Melvin Burke. Jean was a member of Bethany United Church. She worked at Koolex Cleaners for over 20 years. She enjoyed family gatherings, going to church, loved animals, music, playing bingo and cards, watching hockey, and movies. Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r, sister, and great friend to many. She will be remembered for her generosity and warm heart by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Reuben Acton of Halifax; daughters, Bonita Shaw (Bill), Truro; Catherine Wrightman (Jason), Newmarket, Ont.; Paulette Rhyno (Eugene), St. Margarets Bay; Cheryl Acton (Gardiner), Halifax; son, Daniel Acton, Ottawa; sister, Lucy Roloson, Burgessvil­le, Ont.; brother, Paul Burke, Calgary, Alta.; grandchild­ren, Tasha, Amanda, Joey, Michele, Kyle, Acton, Kaelyn, Kayley; great-grandchild­ren, Shannon, Alyssa, Nathan, Chase, Taylor; many nieces and nephews. Predecease­d by sisters, Ruth Gallant, Barbara Planadin, Catherine Gravel and brother, Lester Burke. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the VG Site, QEII, Palliative Care Unit who went above and beyond with their care and compassion. A celebratio­n of Jean’s life to follow at a later date.
