September 7, 1941 - May 2, 2020. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David James Bird, 78, of Halifax. God’s good and faithful servant was received into God’s loving embrace on May 2nd in the comfort of his own home. David was born in Halifax, son of the late William and Amelia (Kettle) Bird. David’s legacy of love lives on in his daughters, Sheila Proulx (Jacques), Andrea Khiroya (Sujay); grandchild­ren, Jonathan, Matthew (Alana), Andre, Amisha, Millen and Neel; his beloved greatgrand­son, Greyson; sister, Paulette Guthrie; and nephew, Scott (Charmaine). The family takes comfort in knowing that David is now rejoicing with his beloved daughter, Michelle Anne; brother-in-law, Ron, and nephew, Ronnie. David retired as a longterm employee of Maritime Tel and Tel (Bell Aliant). David’s passion for travel, music, reading and his devotion to helping people was well-known and will always be remembered. His acts of kindness includes his time as a Sunday school teacher for children with special needs, a big brother, a food bank volunteer, as well as his numerous actions of generosity such as driving seniors to appointmen­ts, baking for his beloved church events, etc. David’s kindness was recognized in 1990 when he received the Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company Community Humanitari­an Award. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by many. Arrangemen­ts are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A celebratio­n of life will take place at a later date. David’s family extends their sincere gratitude to David’s family doctor, the VON staff and the Palliative Care team. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
