MCKINTY-ROGERS (O’grady), Shirley Marie

-

December 5, 1933 - April 18, 2020. After a brief illness in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax at the age of 86, Shirley was called home by the Lord. Shirley was strong in her faith and was looking forward to going home to God and to be reunited with her husband, and the love of her life, Douglas "Buddie" Rogers; son, Wayne Rogers (deceased April 3, 2020), and her 12 beloved brothers and sisters. Shirley was a daughter of Alfreda (Bateman) and Harold O’grady. She is survived by her loving son, John Rogers; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Rogers; sister, Geraldine Smith, New Brunswick; step-daughter-inlaw, Christine Mckinty and family, and grandchildren, Renee, Douglas, Morgan, Candace, and Jeffery. She was predeceased by sisters, Diane, Marjorie, Rosie, Gertie, Madeline, and brothers, Gordon, Gerald, John, Charles "Bus" and David. Shirley was born in Windsor Junction. Buddy and Shirley were the first couple married in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Windsor Junction. After the passing of her husband Buddy in 1973, she went to work at Nova Scotia Light and Power where she worked in an office. Shirley was taught how to knit by some of her co-workers, and quickly developed a passion for it. She has knitted beautiful gifts for her grandchildren, great nieces and nephews. She met and married Dennis Mckinty and moved to Whitefish Falls, Ont., where they ran a lodge, cabins and campground. Shirley was a devote Catholic, Past President and member of the Catholic Women’s League in Halifax and in Manitoulin Island, Ont. She was a very giving person and made friends wherever she went. Her great sense of humour will be stamped in our memories forever. Shirley was a strong woman who endured difficult times but always rose above them and held her head high. In later years she enjoyed spending time with her friend Edith and attending many Jamborees in the Hants County area. She will be sorely missed by her sister-in-law, Marty O’grady, Halifax; brother-inlaw, Bernie Mcdonald, Waverley and her many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will take place in Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Fall River. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
