MCMULLIN, Mary Jeanette

-

March 5, 1931 - May 3, 2020. Our dear mother and nanny died peacefully on Sunday morning, May 3rd, with daughter Susan by her side. Mom, we’re so sad to lose you but happy that you are no longer suffering. You made it to 89! We know how heartbroken you’ve been since Dad left us. He’s been waiting patiently, as he always would be. Family was everything to you. You’d always tell us about your big family growing up, with so much love. Always a proud Northside Dunn, music filled your home and wove its way around your brothers, sisters, their families and friends. You taught us well, without even realizing it. Your humility, hard work, devotion and gentle nature will never be forgotten and will live on in us and our generations to come. Your wicked sense of humour was with you to the end, even when your health was failing. You tried so hard. Mom enjoyed the simple things, drives with Dad, long phone gabs with her children, the occasional junk food run and oh how she loved a bargain. Value Village will miss you! We’re glad you’re finally out of the kitchen. Those dishpanhands needed a rest. We wish we had only appreciated it more at the time. We know you did your very best. Mom was born in North Sydney to Morrissey and Mary (Wilkie) Dunn. When Mom and Dad married, they moved to Sydney. They spent their last 25 years in Grandmother Mcmullin’s flat on Union Street. So many turkey dinners in the old kitchen and after dinner entertainment by Dad on the keyboard in the sunroom. Granddaughters Angie and Laura always lived nearby and Mom and Dad loved seeing them everyday. Mom leaves behind children, Greg (Marie Claire), John (Kim), Susan Macdonnell (Robert), Peter, Anna (Doug), Joan (Joey) and Bill (Cheryl); 12 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Tom; her brothers, Kilmer, Pat, Gerard, Leonard, and Terry as well as sisters, Joan, Betty and Norma. Also surviving is brother, Jamie of North Sydney, as well as many, much-loved nieces and nephews. Even though the spas are still closed here, we’ve booked you in for a "spa day" up above and sent you off with a great outfit. You deserve it. Dad will be so impressed when he sees you and just in time to meet him on the boardwalk. There will be no service due to Covid-19 restrictions. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family would like to wholeheartedly thank Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Irish Cove in Sydney and more recently Arborstone Enhanced Care Halifax 2nd and 4th floors for their excellent and compassionate care of Mom during this challenging time. In lieu of flowers or donations, be kind to one another and we would like to encourage more volunteerism with seniors, especially those living alone or in long-term care facilities. The need is great.
