1959-2020. Of North Alton, Kings Co., passed away at home April 15, 2020 just two days from her 61st birthday. Born in Brockville, Ont., on April 17, 1959, she was the only child of Carroll Rudolf and Shirley Mae (Holt) Gilliatt. In 1965 she moved with her mother to Canning to live with her grandmothe­r, Laura Holt. Julia attended Glooscap Elementary School, and graduated from Cornwallis District High School in 1977, receiving the Queen Elizabeth Medal for highest academic standing in Grade 12. She then attended Dalhousie University and Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax graduating in 1982. She was most recently employed with Capital Health for 25 years as a dedicated employee. Her work was very important to her and she was dedicated to doing a good job. She loved to play the piano and played for her church for several years. Her other passion were singing and she sang in the North Alton Baptist Church choir. Julia also loved to cook and experiment­ed with many recipes. She enjoyed singing hymns, telling and hearing jokes, playing board and card games and attending family gatherings. She is survived by stepsister­s, Marlene Sanford, Brenda Parker and Cathy Jones and their families; an uncle Darrell Holt; and many Holt family cousins. She was predecease­d by her mother, Shirley Gilliatt-butler, stepfather, Glendon Butler, and father, Carroll Gilliatt. Her remains have been cremated and a memorial service will be held in North Alton Baptist Church at a later date as well as a graveside service in Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Middle Sackville. Donations in her memory may be made to North Alton Baptist Church.
