SCHURMAN, Earle Morton

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earle Schurman of Mount Denson, on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the age of 85. Born on January 8, 1935, in Windsor, he was the eldest child of the late Amos and Mary (Redden) Schurman. Earle enjoyed reminiscing about the past. He had a special place in his heart for the sentimentality of his early years and the history of his Century Family Farm, to where he had returned to live the later years of life. He had a memory like no other for dates, especially birthdays. Earle was very much a people person. His career started working for the Bank of Nova Scotia then to Canadian Keyes Fibre from which he retired after 43 years of service, holding the position of Manager of Customer Service and Distribution. Earle played baseball with the Hantsport Shamrocks for many years, winning the Maritime Championship in 1961. However, his true passion in life was his standard bred horses, racing many at Sackville Downs, Truro and Charlottetown. In the seventies, one special horse named Rascal Lew J became the fastest two year old colt in the Maritimes, making that one of the highlights of his life. Earle is survived by son, Earle Morton Jr. "Mort", Hants Border; daughters, Beverly (Peter) Croft, Canaan; and Amanda (Tom) Mcreynolds, Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Fitzgerald and Marlee Croft; step-grandchildren, Aidan and Ella Mcreynolds; great-grandchildren, Avery, Rowan, Ian and Ethan; daughter-in-law, Lynn Macdonald-schurman; siblings, Betty Lou (the late Paul) Loomer, Diane (Grant Jackson), Doug (Margie Vaughan Lloy), Linda (Peter) King, and Harry (Lila); as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia "Pat" (Turner); son, Sam; sister, Faye (Bill) Mclaren; brother, Jeffrey; sister-in-law, Sharon Schurman. Arrangements have been entrusted to Demont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a graveside interment service in Mount Denson Community Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Earle may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Division, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
