Age 85 of Port Bickerton, Guysboroug­h Co., passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at home. Born in Fisherman’s Harbour, he was a son of the late Asa and Rhoda (Horton) Harpell. Doug was a gentleman, admired and respected by all. He was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r. Doug started work at an early age with his own trucks, fished and swordfishe­d out of Sambro, and he drove truck for Coastal Bulk Transport for many years. He liked to fly fish, and hunt. He loved his big Ford cars. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and the Harpell Family Cemetery. Doug had a strong faith in God and was an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Bickerton. He is survived by his wife, Lottie (Hubley); daughter, Cheryl (Darrell) Rideout; sons, Brian (Beverly), Blaine, Dwayne (Heather); eight grandchild­ren; six great-grandchild­ren; brothers, Jerry (Janice), Junior (Sandra), Charlie (Elizabeth), Isaac (Sherry), John (Louise); sisters, Hilda Sherman, Florence Baker, Carol Whitmore, Sandra (Leonard) Archibald, Wanetta (Roger) Evans, Marjorie (Grant) Yake, Barbara (David) Croft, Judy (Gordie) Macdonald, Cindy (Lloyd) Macgrath; son-inlaw, Keith Whidden; sister-inlaw, Mickey Harpell; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predecease­d by daughter, Verlene Whidden; daughterin-law, Cheryl Mcleod; brothers, Stanley, Clayton, twins, Harold and Hector in infancy; several brothers-in-law and one sisterin-law. Due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns, a visitation and funeral service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Bickerton.
