NORTON (Macleod), Eileen Florence

Age 95, of Kentville, passed away May 9, 2020, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Mack and Kathleen (Ross) Macleod. Although married life took her to Shawinigan and St. Lambert, Que., retirement years brought her back to her beloved Cape Breton (Baddeck) and later Kentville. She made lifelong friends everywhere she went, but wherever she lived, she always remained a proud Cape Bretoner at heart. She enjoyed curling, entertaining, a good hand of bridge, and a long and lively letter correspondence with her many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Pat Norton; and children, Kathy (Lloyd) Boutilier, Don (Ashley Allen) Van Zoost, Mark (Andrea) Van Zoost and Laura (Travis) Mesher, all in Nova Scotia; her son, Don Norton (late wife Isabel); and children, Michael and Sarah, all of Michigan; and her 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Hal Norton; sister, Norma Macleod; and brother, Donald Macleod (both of Sydney, Cape Breton). She was a true Macleod and "held fast" throughout her long and steadfast life. Eileen and her family are grateful to Mike and Yiwen Walsh and the wonderful staff of Wedgewood House in Kentville where she spent her latter years for their excellent and loving care. Thank you, too, to Dr. Broaders and the wonderful staff on Medical B. Eileen will be buried in Cape Breton at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
