Beatrice Lillian (Mason) Weldon

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lillian Beatrice Weldon (Mason) on May 5, 2020. Lillian was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was a loyal, caring friend to all whose lives she touched, and she was certainly the youngest 99 year old soul that you would ever meet. Lillian left our world sleeping peacefully in Ivany Place, with Bev and Ted at her side and we know that she feels blessed to be joining a reunion of family and friends that she hasn’t seen in a long time. Lillian was the daughter of Loftus Arthur Mason and Emma Mason (Pegg-carmichael). She was born and raised in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay before starting her career as a Master Hairdresser in Halifax during the War. She first worked at the White Orchid before becoming a manager at Clark’s Beauty Salon, and before returning home with her husband George to settle down in the Bay where she opened her own salon, Lillian’s Beauty Salon, in the "little red log cabin". Lillian and George lived next door to the Beauty Salon and raised their family together surrounded by friends and relatives. She had a strong faith in God and loved the little brown church on the snake turns. As Lillian and George settled into retirement, she remained a proud Hairdresser and if she walked by a beauty salon that smelled of perm solution, she would often giggle and sing, "I smell money"! Lillian and George shared a love for travel and adventure which took them across Canada to visit George’s family and to England, Scotland and California as well as on several bus trips with the White Caps. They truly enjoyed their time together and when George fell ill, Lillian dedicated her time to his care for several years until his passing. As Lillian continued in her retirement, she was lucky to have her best friend and sister-in-law, Muriel, living across the road. They were inseparable - "two peas in a pod" - as some would say. Together, they lived an active social life between road trips with Eileen, Mabel and Irene, bowling with their seniors’ group, having card games at the house and playing the machines at Canadiana or the Casino. You couldn’t keep up with these girls! Lillian loved to have people drop by to visit her in "my little house", and she was always ready for visitors with her hair done, her lipstick on, her nails painted, and an invitation to share a glass of "Lillian’s slush" which could always be found in the freezer. As Lillian aged, it was clear that the Bay was in her heart - she was one of the longest living residents of the Bay and she was privileged to witness the transition of a small rural community to the suburban lifestyle that it is today, often commenting on how the Bay had changed and say "wouldn’t George be surprised if he was here to see these changes?" We aren’t sure if it’s all the elephants that brought her luck throughout her years, or if she was just born lucky, but Lillian lived a long, healthy life that was filled with love. Lillian was the last surviving sibling of 12 brothers and sisters. She lived in her own home well past her 98th birthday, thanks to the caring assistance of Dr. Kathy Quackenbush, Northwood Homecare Staff, the VON, Nancy, Pam, Gina and Yvonne, whose devotion we can never repay and whose kindness will never be forgotten. In the fall of 2019, Lillian moved into Ivany Place. The compassion and care provided by Lori, Lacey, Zippy, Amy, Paula, Lynn, Shelly, Amanda, Rhonda, Rebecca, Sandra and the others who we didn’t know by name - went above and beyond any expectations. Lillian enjoyed sharing her rhymes and songs, but especially she enjoyed impressing others by reciting the alphabet backwards. Try it. We know that Lillian felt a deep spirit of love and comradeship with Reverend Brianna, who kindly reached out to share prayers with Lillian in her final days. Lillian will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of all whose lives she touched. Lillian is survived by her loving children, Barry Wayne (Denise), Charles Edward (Ted) (special friend Stacy Battist), Beverly Ann (Alfred); grandchildren, Kim (Kirk), Eron (Kenni), Trevor (Janice), Christopher, Benjamin, Charity, Kevin (Caren) and Melanie (Jordie); great-grandchildren, Dahmien, Cameron, Mitchell, Claire, Lilli-bea and Artie; countless nieces and nephews who each have a special spot in her heart. She was predeceased by her loving husband of over 40 years, George Kenney Weldon; siblings, Arthur (Mabel), Fred (Marge), Jim (Muriel), Charlie (Irene), Mary (Russ), Eileen (Lou), Ruby (Gerry), Eleanor (Jim); and three brothers in infancy, Granville, Clarence and George; and by her devoted companion, Missy, her kitty! Funeral Arrangements are under the care and direction of Rhonda with Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home and will be announced at a later date.
