Dartmouth man wanted for home invasion
A Dartmouth man has been charged with a number of offences, including attempted murder, in connection with a home invasion in North Preston last Friday.
RCMP announced Tuesday that investigators have obtained a provincewide arrest warrant for Tyqwan Jacardo Downey, 22.
Downey is also charged with break and enter, robbery, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm.
RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on Ernie Lane in North Preston on Friday at about 3:30 a.m.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The victim, a 54-year-old man, was transported to hospital with injuries that RCMP described as serious but not lifethreatening.
RCMP said a man had forced his way into the home and demanded money from the victim. A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed with a knife.
Police have made several attempts to locate Downey, RCMP said, but are asking for assistance from the public.
Downey is black, five-footseven and 175 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
RCMP said members of the public should not approach him if they see him but should call police.
Anyone with information on Downey's whereabouts is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
In July 2018, Downey was charged with seven firearmrelated offences, including recklessly discharging a .22-calibre semi-automatic handgun, in relation to a shooting in north-end Dartmouth the month before.
The shooting occurred in the area of Lahey Road and Catherine Street on June 28, 2018, at about 12:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported but two vehicles were hit by gunfire.
