MURPHY, John Arthur
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Arthur Murphy on May 8, 2020 in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. John Arthur was born at St. Mary’s Road, P.E.I., on April 21, 1938. He was one of 13 children of the late Thomas and Catherine Ann (Gormley) Murphy. He is survived by his former wife of 34 years, Gail (Redden) Murphy; and children, Brenda (Tom), Daniel (Heather), John (Joyce) and Blaine; grandchildren, Craig (Courtney), Staci (Blake) and Nathan. John Arthur is also survived by sisters, Edna Wall, St. Catharine’s, Ont.; and Anne Ballum, Milton, Ont. Predeceased by sisters, Mary (Mamie) Mccarron, Clara Giddings, Frances Levandier, Catherine (Kay) Bromhead, Rosaline O’laine, Eunice Wilson and Ruby Deveau; brothers, Thomas, Raymond and Vincent. John was a long-time member of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 269 working on the piers of Halifax for many years. He was a simple man who loved nature, long walks and getting together with friends to share a cup of coffee and a tale or two. Born and raised on a farm in rural Prince Edward Island, he enjoyed getting his hands dirty in a garden and lending a hand when needed. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Parkstone for their exceptional care and compassion, with a special shout-out to Jennifer, Kelsey, Lesley and Christine. Due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19 a celebration of John’s life and interment will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be welcome or to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home in Halifax. "Until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand"
