Man faces child pornography charges

The Chronicle Herald (Provincial) - - NEWS -

A Colchester County man was arrested on child pornography charges after RCMP searched his home Monday.

An RCMP news release Wednesday said officers executed a warrant at a residence in Onslow Mountain after a social media company notified law enforcement that child pornography was being shared on its application.

Jon-erik Hill, 31, is charged with making, transmitting and possessing child pornography.

RCMP said Hill was released on strict conditions and is scheduled to appear in Truro provincial court on Aug. 12.

“During this unprecedented time of social and physical distancing, children may have more unsupervised access to the internet, putting them at greater risk of harm,” RCMP advised in the release. “Parents and caregivers are encouraged to continue monitoring their children’s online activities.

“Additionally, without typical access to teachers, healthcare professionals and social workers, children may be at greater risk of physical and sexual abuse within the home. Anyone with concerns about the health and wellness of a child is encouraged to contact local police.”
