GENTLES, Eva Doris

-

June 25, 1933 May 12, 2020. Age 86. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, sister, proud mother and grandmother, Eva. She courageously lived with Alzheimer’s and spent her final days as a resident of 9 Centre in Northwood Long Term Care Facility in Halifax in the care of the most incredible team of angels among us. In addition to her parents Rita and Rueben Butler, she was predeceased by brothers, James, Lawson and Guy; and sister, Elsie. Born in Murphy Cove, as a young lady she moved to Halifax, where she worked at Kennedy Guest House in Indian Harbor. Shortly thereafter, she moved to the big city and worked at Thompson’s Drugstore in North End Halifax where she met the love of her life Don - her devoted husband for the last six decades. She is also survived by her daughter, Louise (Daryl); and the grandchildren, Kayla, Nicholas and Benjamin, of whom she considered her pride and joy. She is survived by her sisters, Gloria Fahie, Shirley Murphy (Russell); and brother, Graham Butler (Ethel); as well as many nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in law. They say that the home is where the heart is and our little lady was the heart and soul of our home. Warm and always welcoming, she made anyone and everyone she met feel like they were at home in her presence. Generous, thoughtful and she took great pride in anything that took shape in her kitchen and her legacy will live on in the countless recipes she adorned, from tea biscuits to molasses cookies - her secret to the perfect gravy we may never know. She was a proud and active member of Saint Agnes Parish Church community and a dedicated member of the Children of Mary; always volunteering and offering to provide for various social events. She was a long-time employee of MT&T, held the coveted role as Cosmetologist at Lawton’s Drugs and served as one of the best office clerks at The Department of Education up until her retirement in 1990 in which she embraced what would become her legacy: grandmother. An immense and immeasurable thanks go out to the staff of 9 Centre, for their continued care, support and love during Mom’s time at Northwood. You have truly become part of our family and we will be forever indebted to you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northwood Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Due to our current environment, a private family interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Online condolences can be made at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com (Halifax Chapel).
